Amelia

Amelia is a loving, cuddly 1 year old Shih Tzo that weighs 11 lbs. She is fully grown and will not get any larger. Amelia is the definition of a sweet, affectionate cuddle bug that loves nothing more than being close to her people. She loves to be doted on and cuddled, and will shower you with sweet puppy kisses every chance she gets. She loves everyone she meets and is truly a social butterfly that immediately seeks affection from new people she meets. Her love language is touch, and she finds every chance she can take to hop on your lap and be cuddled. She also has a playful and silly side that makes her so much fun to be around. She will toss around her toys to play by herself and engage in a fun game of chase with her doggy friends. Amelia is naturally curious and is like the nosy neighbor that likes to check out what everyone is doing around the neighborhood when she goes out on her daily walks. When she's inside, she will pop her head up to the window to watch the neighbors walking by or to greet the delivery drivers as they drop off packages. Her social butterfly personality has made her a favorite around the neighborhood. She would love to tag along on fun adventures to dog-friendly shops or outdoor patios where she can soak up all the love from everyone she meets, too. When her foster mom works from home, Amelia loves to sit on her lap or next to her on the computer chair to soak up as many cuddles as she can throughout the day. Amelia's ideal home would be one filled with love, companionship, and cozy cuddles. She would thrive with someone who enjoys having a loyal little shadow by their side. Whether that’s working from home, relaxing on the couch, or exploring the city together, Amelia is always happy to be included in whatever her humans are doing. She has so much love to give and is ready to share it all with her forever family. With her sweet personality, social butterfly nature, and laid back temperament, Amelia is sure to fill her forever home with joy, laughter, and endless snuggles.

Amelia is medium energy, and has short bursts of spunky energy that are easily burned with short walks around the neighborhood or playtime in the backyard. She is best described as an active couch potato because she's happy to lounge around as long as her human wants to, but the minute you want to go outside and play, she's ready to join you. She loves playing with her toys, fun games that involve yummy treats, and anything that keeps her engaged with her people. She also enjoys romping around with her doggy friends and cuddling on the couch with his foster mom. She loves going on short leisurely walks around the neighborhood and exploring nature trails along the Greenbelt. She never passes up the chance to hop in the car to join her humans on dog-friendly outings and absolutely loves going to dog-friendly stores around town. Her favorite activities involve just being with her humans. She also enjoys activities that give her a bit of mental stimulation, so puzzle games and treat dispensing toys that she can work on to get some yummy dog treats. Her ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and she’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month, especially now that she is about to start teething.
Amelia is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs and has previously lived with cats. She loves other dogs, and is currently in a foster home with both large and small dogs. She can be a bit excitable when she first meets a new doggy friend and barks out of excitement. Give her a short moment to settle and she will settle down enough to do proper introductions. She would love to have another playful dog in her forever home, but she would be perfectly fine being the only dog and getting all of her human's attention. She would love to be in a home with another dog that is friendly and playful, but she would also do well with a calmer older dog because she's good about entertaining herself when needed. Amelia would do well with kids of all ages and would love to have kids in the home that she can play and cuddle with. She was previously in a home with kids ranging in age from 6 to 15 and she was comfortable interacting with all of them. She is very playful, sweet, and loves to be cuddled and loved on, so if there are kids in the home to play with and give her affection, she's going to be a happy girl. She has lived with cats previously and did play with them because they are similar in size. She would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as she is spunky and playful, and may want to play with them.
Amelia is kennel trained, potty trained, and leash trained. She sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss and will sleep throughout the night. She loves to have a comfy dog bed and some yummy treats when she goes into her kennel, then she will settle right in for the night. She would really love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible though. She loves to go on walks around the neighborhood and does well going to dog-friendly stores as well. She walks well on a leash and doesn't pull at all. She does bark at loud motorcycles or motor scooters if she's caught off guard, but quiets down quickly and continues on her walk once they pass by. She is fully potty trained and will notify you that she needs to go out by doing a tap dance by the back door. She does well on a consistent schedule with both her potty and exercise breaks. If she is in her kennel and needs to potty, she will cry to let you know. Amelia does need to be brushed multiple times a week and go to a groomer every 6-8 weeks, so having an experienced adopter that is familiar with a dog that needs frequent grooming appointments is preferred.
Amelia's ideal home would be one where she can be included in her family’s daily life and get plenty of love, exercise, and attention. She would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to run and play in, but she’d also be perfectly content in an apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as she gets regular walks and playtime. She would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and some kids to cuddle and play with. She's also the type of dog that can be completely happy being the "only child" and getting all her humans' love and affection to herself too. No public dog parks for this sweet girl because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. She would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots for playtime and exercise when she gets older if she does live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private fenced-in yard. She would love if her human works from home or works a hybrid schedule, and even would love to go to work with you if you go to a dog-friendly office. If you work out of the home and she is the only dog, she would benefit from having a dog walker so she can get exercise and potty breaks mid-day so she isn't cooped up inside alone for 8+ hours. With her adaptable, happy nature, Amelia would be a wonderful fit for a variety of families. She would love to have a family that is equally happy to snuggle and cuddle as they are to go on fun outdoor adventures.
