Memphis
Memphis is a loving, cuddly 3 month old mixed breed pup that weighs 13 lbs. His short stubby legs and long body indicate he may be mixed with dachshund, but other breeds he's mixed with are unknown. He is estimated to be around 40-45 lbs once he is full grown and will NOT be a small breed size.
Memphis is very curious and confident, and he loves nothing more than following his foster mom around as he is investigating and exploring his surroundings. He is an easy going, laid back pup that loves to spend time lounging around chewing on doggy bones, playing with his doggy friends, and digging through the dog toy box for his favorite toys. He's very affectionate and will sneak some sweet puppy kisses in every chance he gets. He always finds his way onto his foster mom's lap when he's ready for a nap, then slowly makes his way up to her chest for extra snuggles as he sleeps. He is a social butterfly that loves everyone he meets. He loves making new friends with people and dogs alike, and his sweet demeanor makes it easy for him to win everyone over that he meets. He is always happy to entertain himself with his toys and chewies while his foster mom is working from home. He is great pup for someone who wants a furry companion to join them everywhere, whether it is at home, at the office, or just going on adventures around town, he is always happy to join. He is quiet for the most part, but will do a cute little "woof" when he wants you to pick him up for some cuddles. This adorable pup acclimates easily into new environments and would love to go along with any adventure as he grows older. Want a pup that is happy to lounge around cuddling on the couch and is also happy to go have some fun exploring nature? Well, Memphis is your guy.
Memphis is lower energy and is more on the laid back side, but he does have short bursts of puppy energy that needs to be burned a few times a day. As he grows older, his energy level may increase slightly, but he's going to be a pretty easy going pup that won't require extensive energy burning activities. He will be always happy to go on walks and play with toys in the backyard, but he probably won't be a marathon runner with his stubby little legs and lazy boy demeanor. He loves having lots of toys to play with and would benefit from having a BarkBox subscription so he gets lots of new toys and chews to choose from. He is a big fan of stuffed animals that crinkle, and has recently discovered that squeaky toys are also really fun too. He loves to dig through the doggy toy box finding different toys to play with and will keep himself busy playing while his foster mom works from home or doing housework. He even likes to cuddle with her in her computer chair as she works and stays extra quiet during her work meetings, only making cute appearances to check out the co-workers on the computer screen. This boy really loves food and treats, and a great way to keep him entertained is with mental stimulation games, like doggy puzzles, hide and seek treat toys, and food dispensing games. Anything that involves food, Memphis is happy to partake in. If you're looking for a pup that you can take to all the dog-friendly activities around town and fun adventures in nature, Memphis will be great for that. He just will need to practice some leash walking skills first as he gets older.
Memphis is kid friendly, cat friendly, and dog friendly. He loves dogs of all sizes and ages, and currently is in a foster home with dogs ranging in size from 7 lbs to 80 lbs, and from age range puppy to senior. He is happy to cuddle up and play with other dogs, and is confident when he meets new dogs for the first time. As long as he continues having positive social interactions with dogs as he grows, he will be a great dog to be able to take on public outings. He would love to have another friendly, playful dog in his forever home to continue learning from as he grows up. He is young enough to integrate into a home with dog-friendly cats and would be happy to coexist with kitty friends in the home that have been around puppies/dogs before. It is recommended to do slow intros with cats that have not been around dogs before and to utilize baby gates to allow the kitty to have their personal space if needed. He is really gentle when playing with cats and bumps them with his nose to try to instigate playtime. He would do well with kids of all ages, but because he is so small, interactions with younger toddlers and babies would need to be closely monitored for his safety. He is currently in the teething phase and will need lots of dog-friendly chew toys to prevent him from chewing on unapproved items. Just make sure you put away your shoes until he's done teething because he is very interested in shoelaces. Providing him with lots of toys and chew bones is recommended, and you can toss a toy in front of you while you're walking around the house if he's focused on playing with your shoes. He loses interest in the shoes and takes off running after the toy instead. He loves to snuggle and cuddle, and really loves to be close to his people, so the more humans around to give him belly rubs and cuddles, the happier he will be.
Memphis is kennel trained, and has almost mastered potty training. He has transitioned to going outside to potty and will bark at the back door when he really needs to go. If you don't make it to the back door in time, he will use a potty pad, so keeping one by the back door until he gets a little older and his little bladder muscles get stronger is recommended. He prefers to do his business outside though and has been making significant progress with his potty training. He would benefit from having someone home majority of the day or that can take him outside multiple times throughout the day while he is still working on potty training. He will not potty in his kennel at night, but will cry to wake you up if he really needs to go. He has started leash training, but will still need his forever family to help him master this when he is in his forever home. He sleeps in a kennel/playpen set up at night and doesn't mind at all. He will put himself to bed when he is tired and doesn't make a peep all night.
Memphis' ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can run around and play in. It is *not* recommended to take Memphis to dog parks for socialization, but instead doing doggy day care, individual play dates with other dogs, or just taking him out in public settings so he can learn to be neutral around other dogs walking by.
