Rollo

Rollo is an easy going, laid back 4 year old lab / terrier mix that weighs 44 lbs. He is at his full grown size and won't get any larger. Rollo is an absolute sweetheart that loves to spend time with his humans. He is outgoing and friendly, and he loves meeting new people and other dogs. Immediately when he meets a new person, he will plop himself down on the floor and offer up his belly for some belly rubs. He is a go-with-the-flow kind of guy that enjoys lounging around and sunbathing in the backyard while his foster mom gardens. He will sprawl out in the grass and watch her while she's working on the garden, and every time she passes, he lifts up his head so she can give him a kiss on the forehead. When he's not outside sunbathing, you can usually find him on a comfy dog bed inside napping. When he wants to get his human's attention, he will nudge your arm with his nose and wait patiently for some ear scratches and cuddles. His ideal family is laid back, low energy and enjoys spending time outdoors on the patio when the weather is nice.

Rollo is low energy, but he does like to go on leisurely strolls around the nature trails and in the neighborhood. His favorite activity to do is roll around in the grass with his feet up in the air as he finds a comfy position to sunbathe in. He will often fall asleep for a nap with his belly up getting some warm sunshine beaming on him. He does not run and wrestle with the other dog in his foster home, but will sit back and watch her as she does zoomies around the yard. He doesn't play with toys, but loves a good cardboard box to play with and chew on. Due to his back leg having permanent pins in it from surgery after getting hit by a car, he does have limited mobility and cannot walk far distances or go on runs with his human. He would however love to join his humans for longer walks and runs if he can ride along in a doggy stroller. He truly just loves to be wherever his humans are and wants to be involved in whatever fun outings he can join them on. He is the perfect dog for someone who is retired or works from home that wants a laid back pup to keep them company. Just give Rollo a long lasting chew and he will be a happy camper as he sits next to his human and just hangs out.

Rollo is kid and dog friendly, and has the potential to coexist with kitties too. He is currently in a foster home with another large dog, and was previously in one with both small and large dogs. He doesn't play with them, but enjoys just hanging out and spending time lounging around with them. He would do best in a home with dogs that match his energy or that understand that he is an independent type of guy that doesn't want to wrestle or play rough with other dogs. Rollo ignores small animals and has shown zero prey drive, so he would be able to coexist in a home with kitties with slow introductions. He really just keeps to himself when it comes to other animals and will happily spend time in the same room with them, but he doesn't need another animal companion in his forever home. He is much more focused on getting to share his cuddles and sweet puppy kisses with his humans. Rollo would be perfect for a family that has kids of any age. He adores his foster mom's grandkids and will lay on the floor by their feet waiting for them to give him head pats, hugs, and belly rubs. If they stop giving him pets, he will gently lay his head on their lap and fall asleep cuddling next to them. He is very gentle and slow moving, so even if there are toddlers or babies learning to walk in the home, Rollo will stay lying still so you don't have to worry about him knocking them over. He does love to play dress up and wears a nonskid sock on his back leg, so he is comfortable being handled and loves when he gets to wear a doggy hat or cute bandana.

Rollo is leash trained, potty trained, and kennel trained. He walks well on a leash and doesn't pull at all. He walks at a very leisurely pace and doesn't pull or react to seeing other dogs on his walks. He has perfect manners when passing by other people and dogs. If someone is coming from the opposite direction, he will stop and allow them to pass before he continues on his walk. It's like he knows that he walks at a slower pace and doesn't want to hold up anyone on the walking trail that is behind him. He is fully potty trained and has never had an accident in the foster home. He knows how to use a doggy door to go outside when he needs to potty during the day. If he needs to go at night when the doggy door is closed, he will nudge his foster mom's arm or leg to let her know he needs to go outside. He doesn't mind being in his kennel, but he does well when he's left out to sleep on a dog bed in the living room. He is not destructive at all, besides having some fun playing with an empty cardboard box occasionally. He cannot jump on a human bed or the couch on his own, but would love to have some doggy stairs that he can use to get on the couch to cuddle with his humans.

Rollo's ideal home environment is a house with a fenced in backyard. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse, or condo that is on the first floor (no big stairs for this boy) and there needs to be a dedicated fenced in space or a patio with a comfy dog bed that he can access to get his daily sunbathing in. He does well being off leash and has great recall, but would not do well at busy dog parks or off leash areas where there are a ton of dogs running around due to him being slow moving with his pinned leg. He would be the perfect pup for someone who works from home or is retired because he enjoys just lounging around with his human and going on short, leisurely walks. He loves kids and would do great with a family with kids of all ages that he can cuddle with. He does not need another dog in his forever home, but would be fine living with a low energy, easy going dog like himself that would respect his independent nature.
