Senna
Senna is gentle, loving 7-8 month old lab mix that weighs 37 lbs. She is estimated to be around 45 lbs once she is full grown. Senna is best described as being curious, quiet and playful. She is a social butterfly when it comes to meeting new people, and loves kids, cats, and other dogs. She truly does not know a stranger and is friendly with every new person she comes across. For a young pup her age, Senna is incredibly calm, mature, and intelligent. She has done great with basic training in her foster home and has learned so much already. She waits for "OK" to take treats from hand, and responds to many other words such as "treat," "food," "outside," "go on" (in conjunction with pointing to leave an area), "ball," and "sit." She even figured out how to use the dog door in one day. She is also a major cuddle bug and you can usually find her lounging around the house with either one of the human kids or her furry foster siblings, snuggled up close as she takes a puppy nap.
She is medium energy so she is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that requires 1-2 hours of nonstop exercise per day, such as longer walks or play time in the backyard multiple times a day. She loves going on walks on the nature trails, runs around the neighborhood, playing fetch with her ball, watching the birds and squirrels from the backyard and playing chase with the other dogs and kids in the house. She is a pro at fetch and loves retrieving a ball. When she brings it back to you, she will drop it in your lap to signal she's ready for you to throw it again. She can keep up with her foster mom when they go on 1-2 mile runs, and will make a great running companion for someone who frequently runs. Although she's not a marathon runner yet, she certainly would be able to work up to running further distances with her human. She is easily entertained by her toys and dog bones. On rainy days, she will sprawl out on her dog bed and play with her toys. Sometimes she even falls asleep with her favorite tennis ball in her mouth. Senna would be perfect for an active, adventurous family that loves the outdoors, but also loves cuddling up on the couch for snuggles and nap time too.
Senna is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She particularly enjoys the company of kids and other dogs of all ages and sizes. She is currently in a foster home with dogs ranging in size from small to large, and from ages young to senior. She will do best in a home with another dog that loves to play (chase is one of her favorites!) Because she is still a puppy, when excited she may softly mouth your hand and other dogs' muzzles as way to say "I want to play!", but is easily corrected and will respond when told "no". She also takes redirection from her doggy friends well, too. When they're done with her silly puppy antics, they will communicate that to her and she will walk away to find a toy to play with instead. She would thrive with another dog in the home that loves to run and play chase. She would love to have some little humans to cuddle and play with, too. Her calm, sweet, gentle nature makes her perfect for a family that has kids of any age. She currently has a kitty in her foster home and wants to be friends, but respects the kitty's boundaries when they communicate they don't want Senna around.
Senna is leash trained, potty trained, and kennel trained. She currently sleeps on a dog bed in the living room at night and can be trusted to be left out as long as you put away your shoes before bed. She won't chew on shoes, but she has a habit of taking them to her dog bed and scattering them around the room. She can hold her bladder through the night, but she needs to be let out before bed and first thing in the morning to prevent any accidents. Senna responds to her own name and has done well with walking off-leash with her foster mom, but is still getting used to the wider world and may get distracted by sights and smells on their daily walks. When she first starts out on her walk, she can pull a little when she is leashed because she gets so excited, although not excessively and she stops once they get going on their walk. Her foster mom has been working on training her to walk alongside her and is utilizing with treats to keep her focus as she is very food motivated.
Senna's ideal home environment is a house with a fenced in backyard that she can run around and play in. She would do well with an active family that lives in a townhome with lots of parks and nature trails around to go on daily walks in, but would not do well living in a small apartment or condo without backyard access. She does well running up a set of stairs, but is still getting the hang of navigating going down the stairs, so it is recommended that she be adopted into a home with only one flight of stairs or no stairs at all. Sometimes she does get a little nervous in the car, but has been doing better with practice. Senna's foster family says that she will be an incredible family member, companion, and workout partner for the lucky family that adopts her.
