Maverick is a laid back, loving 7 month old lab / terrier mix that weighs 49 lbs. He is expected to be around 70-75 lbs once he is full grown. Maverick is an easy going, go-with-the-flow kind of guy that is always happy. This social butterfly loves everyone he meets immediately and doesn't know a stranger. Every new person he meets, he greets them with tail wags and sweet puppy kisses. He is very loving and affectionate, but he isn't overly clingy. While he loves to snuggle and cuddle with his human every chance he gets, he's happy to give you personal space and will entertain himself with toys or bones when you're busy. He's very curious and observant, and loves to sit outside to watch the squirrels run through the trees and birds fly by. He also enjoys watching his foster mom's young daughter jump on the trampoline and play in the backyard, and he will just sit there watching and waiting for her to invite him to come play. He is also very smart and has been quick to pick up on basic training in his foster home. He is very food motivated and eager to please his human, so training is really fun for him. He is a laid back pup that acclimates well into any environment, and he's always happy to go along on adventures as long as his favorite human is by his side.

Maverick is low to medium energy, and is a perfect mix of active and laid back. As he gets older, he will require at least 1-2 hours of daily exercise and mental stimulation activities per day, such as short walks around the neighborhood, adventures hiking and exploring nature, and puzzle games. He will get short bursts of energy that he burns quickly when he does zoomies in the yard. After his short zoomie sessions, you can always find him sprawled out sunbathing or taking a nap on his favorite dog bed. He's very playful and loves interacting with the resident chihuahua in his foster home, and he is always very gentle when they play together. He really loves playing fetch with his foster mom and his favorite toy is a ball. As he gets older, he would love to go on longer hikes to explore nature, but he's also perfectly content having leisurely walks around the neighborhood and playtime in the backyard. He's very good at self-entertaining and will keep himself busy playing with toys or chewing on bones while his foster mom works from home. He enjoys playing with mental stimulation games like puzzle toys or snuffle mats to seek out treats/dog kibble, and this is a great way to keep him entertained if you're busy around the house. He loves any and all toys, and will take his favorite ones to his dog bed to play with. He would benefit from having a another dog in his forever home to play with or be able to have frequent puppy play dates if he is the only dog.

Maverick is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He does well with dogs of all ages and sizes. He is currently in a foster home with dogs ranging in age from young to senior and sizes ranging from 7 lbs to 50 lbs. He is very gentle with the chihuahua and loves to cuddle up next to them. He will patiently wait for them to initiate play, but otherwise he respects their personal space. He loves making new doggy friends and is very submissive in his greetings. When he meets a new dog, he will get really low to the ground and then flop on his back to let the other dog smell him. Once they're friends, he will give them the sweetest puppy kisses and go into a perfect play bow to initiate playtime. He would love to have another dog in his forever home, but would be fine being the only dog in the home as long as he gets plenty of time with his humans and can have frequent puppy play dates or go to doggy day care. He was previously in a foster home with kitties and didn't pay them too much attention. It is recommended to do slow intros with baby gates if there are kitties in his forever home that are not used to being around dogs. He is in a foster home with a young human child and loves her so much. He is very gentle when interacting with her and even takes his treats very softly from her hand. He would be a great pup for a family with kids of any age because of his laid back, loving demeanor and he would love to have human kids to play with as he grows up.

Maverick is kennel trained, potty trained, and is currently working on mastering leash training. He is happy to go in his kennel at night, but he is very well behaved and can be left out to sleep on his dog bed at night. His foster mom usually leaves the kennel door open, so he goes back and forth between his kennel and dog bed to sleep. He would love to eventually to sleep in bed with his human and gets extra cuddles while you sleep. He's a great cuddler and loves to be the little spoon. He will communicate he needs to potty and has not had a single accident in his foster home. His foster mom has started leash training him, and that is still a work in progress so he will need to continue working on his leash walking skills in his forever home. He has also began recall training and is doing well with that as well, so having a long line leash for hiking adventures or play time at the park is a great way to continue his recall training when he goes to his forever home.

Maverick's ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can run around, sunbathe, and play in. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he has a human home majority of the day that can take him out for a few short walks per day for exercise and potty breaks. He would love to have another dog in his forever home, but would benefit from going to a doggy day care a few times a week or have puppy play dates if he is the only dog in his forever home.
