Zara is a sweet, affectionate 5-6 year old Cane Corso that weighs 70-75 lbs. She is full grown and will not get any larger than that. Zara is the sweetest companion that loves nothing more than cuddling with her human. She is gentle, sensitive, loving, and patient. She is a laid back, low energy dog that just loves to lounge around either on the couch or sunbathing in the yard. She loves every human she meets immediately and will wait patiently and calmly for any love and affection they're willing to share with her. She truly doesn't know a stranger at all. When you reach down to pet her head, she just melts her face into your hand, stares at you with the most loving eyes, and wags her nubby little tail. She loves to be where her human is and will follow her foster mom from room to room, and lays down on the ground to wait and then moseys onto the next room behind her foster mom. She enjoys calm, quiet environments that she can just relax in while she lives a leisurely, carefree life. Her ideal family would be retired, works from home, or spends majority of the day at home because she wants nothing more than to be in her human's presence. This beautiful girl is sure to always be a source of love, loyalty, affection and peace with her calm demeanor and affectionate nature.

Zara is low energy, and is best described as a gentle giant couch potato. If her human wants to lounge around the house and cuddle on the couch, she's always happy to join them. She doesn't need a whole lot of daily exercise because she burns her energy following her humans around the house and rolling around in the grass as she sunbathes. She is happy to join her human on leisurely walks around the neighborhood or on nature trails if they want to get out of the house, but she's also perfectly content just lounging around the yard sunbathing. When she's feeling silly she will roll on her back and twist her body back and forth before she falls asleep for a nap in the grass. She would be the perfect dog for someone that loves to spend time outside gardening or sitting on the patio relaxing and enjoying nature. She loves to observe everything around her and will watch the birds and squirrels as they come and go from the yard, and has zero interest in making the effort to chase or investigate them closer. She isn't interested in playing with toys, but loves a good bully stick or long lasting chew to work on while she's hanging out on her dog bed in the living room. She also loves puzzle games that she can work on and figure out how to get treats out of. Enrichment activities that involve yummy treats are definitely more fun to her than any stuffed animal or tennis ball will be, so she would love to have lots of different puzzle games in her forever home to play with.

Zara LOVES kids, tolerates other dogs, and ignores the cat in her foster home. She is currently in a foster home with a smaller dog and two larger dogs, and she coexists with them, but has no interest in interacting with them beyond that. She basically just ignores them and pretends that they are not there. Although she can live with other dogs, she would prefer to be in a home as a solo dog so that she can soak up all the love from her humans. She does tend to resource guard her own food bowl with other dogs when her bowl is in the kennel or in her playpen, but doesn't care about the other dogs' food bowls in the kitchen. She never minds if her humans need to pick up her bowl or top it off with more kibble at all, but just doesn't like to share her specific bowl with another dog. She can coexist with a calm, respectful cat in the home, but slow intros are a must if the cat has not been introduced to dogs before. She tends to ignore the cat in her foster home for the most part, but will watch it briefly when it comes into the room like she's trying to figure out if she has time to go investigate the litter box and kitty food bowl before the cat makes its way back into its bedroom. When she notices the cat is in the bedroom when she walks in, she just moseys her way back to the living room instead. Zara did live with older high school age children in her previous home before coming into the rescue and did great with them. She also loves cuddling with her foster mom's 1 year old grandson and is so gentle with him. When he feeds her treats, she only uses her lips or tongue to take the treat gently from his hand. She just flops over on her back and offers up her belly every time he crawls by her, and when he is practicing walking, she follows behind slowly and watches over him. Because she is so calm, gentle and slow-moving, she would be fine living with kids of any age, but they just have to understand that she won't want to run around and play like a younger puppy would. But she always welcomes all the cuddles, belly rubs, and back scratches she can get and is happy to relax beside them on the couch to get loved on.

Zara is leash trained and potty trained, but really does not like the kennel. She sleeps in a large playpen at night with no fuss, but she would love to snuggle up in bed with her humans or on a dog bed next to her humans' bed every night. If her kennel is in the same room as her human's room, she's fine to stay in it and won't make a fuss. But if she is left alone locked in a kennel, she will try to escape and will just lay on her dog bed waiting for her human to come back. She is not destructive and will not get into anything she's not supposed to if she's left out at night. She is very food motivated and will do anything for a yummy treat. She knows how to sit and lay down already on command. She is potty trained but prefers her human to go outside with her or at least leave the back door open so she knows that she's not being locked outside alone. She takes her time when she is outside to potty, and first wants to make sure that her human isn't going to run back inside and lock her out before she goes to do her business. If she is kenneled at night and needs to potty, she will whine to get your attention and will not potty in her kennel, but she tends to stay asleep the whole night once she falls asleep. She walks well on a leash and doesn't pull at all. She's very slow moving and walks at a very leisurely pace. She tends to want to be near her human all the time so she just follows along behind them the whole time they're walking and never tries to get ahead.

Zara's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard that she can sunbathe and roll around in the grass in. She would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse if her human works from home or is retired, but she wouldn't like to walk up and down lots of stairs. No public dog parks for this sweet girl because she's not interested in playing with other dogs, but she would be fine going on leisurely walks on nature trails or at nearby parks if she does live in an apartment or townhome without a private yard. She would do love to have a family that can dote on her and shower her with affection, and would prefer to be the only dog in the home. She really just loves to be with her humans and the more hands for belly rubs the better. She would do great in a family with kids or grandkids of any age that can respect her couch potato lifestyle and snuggle up close to her to watch movies or spend time cuddling with her.
