Beignet (aka Benny) is a sweet, loving 1.5 - 2 year old mixed breed dog that weighs 55 lbs. He is full grown and will not get any larger.  Benny has earned the adorable nickname “Mr. Steal Your Girl” because, honestly, it’s nearly impossible not to fall completely in love with him. This boy is a total sweetheart who will happily melt right into you for full-body cuddles and shower you with the sweetest puppy kisses. He has a way of looking at you with complete adoration, as if you are the most important person in the world. And when he knows he has your attention, that big, happy smile comes out and you won't be able to resist smiling too. Benny is the ultimate love bug that is calm, gentle, and easygoing. He is perfectly content to spend his day hanging out with his humans and is the perfect work from home buddy because he doesn’t need constant activity or entertainment to be happy. If you're doing a task that doesn't involve a doggy helper, he will quietly hang out waiting patiently until you're ready to move onto the next activity. One of Benny’s most endearing qualities is how devoted he is to his people. He will quietly follow you from room to room, not because he needs anything, but simply because he wants to be wherever you are. He is happiest just being your little doggy shadow no matter what you're doing. When his foster moms are hanging out watching tv, he even watches along with them and seems engaged in the tv shows. While snuggling up on the couch, he will sprawl out and offer up his belly for belly rubs. He is the kind of companion who just wants to share life with you, whether that means cuddling on the couch, accompanying you on leisurely walks at the park, or being your co-pilot on trips around town in the car. He loves to ride in a car, especially when he knows he's getting a pup cup! Benny’s calm, sweet demeanor makes him an absolute joy to be around. He just wants a person or family who will love him, include him in their lives, and appreciate what a special, devoted companion he is. If you’re looking for a big-hearted, cuddly best friend who is equally happy snuggling up with you or lounging peacefully by your side, Benny may just be your guy.

Benny is low to medium energy, and he is best described as an active couch potato. He is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that requires a couple of short exercise sessions per day. Whether it is longer walks around the neighborhood or play time in the backyard, he's content with whatever form of exercise his humans wants to do with him. He loves playing with toys, romping around with his doggy friends, and cuddling on the couch with his foster mom. He is highly food motivated and loves play mental stimulation games, like puzzles that involve his favorite treats. Some of his favorite long lasting bones to work on while his humans are busy are elk antlers and bully sticks.  He also loves running around the yard, playing in a doggy pool, and play wrestling with the other dogs in his foster home. While he enjoys playing with his doggy and human friends, he’s also perfectly content to entertain himself with his favorite toys when he can't find anyone to play with. When he's ready for some down time, he will find a comfy spot on a dog bed and chew on a bone or will toss around his favorite toy to keep himself busy. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. Benny is the type of dog that would enjoy going on fun adventures exploring nature trails or just hanging out on the couch snuggling with his human for movie nights. He would thrive with a laid back family that enjoys the occasional outdoor adventure.

Benny is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with multiple dogs of different ages and sizes. He does well coexisting with them all, but he's more interested in spending time with his humans. He would benefit from having a friendly, confident dog in his forever home, but would also be perfectly fine being the only dog as long as he gets lots of time with his humans. He knows proper doggy communication skills and how to respect boundaries with doggy friends, and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they don't want to play. He has such a laid back, calm demeanor that he can hang out with the senior dogs in the home and they don't mind him one bit. There is a kitty in his foster home and he doesn't pay any attention to it most of the time. He respects their boundaries and just hangs around in the same room as the cat. He would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as he will want to hang out with them if there are no other dogs in the home. Benny would do best in a home with children 10 years old and up. He is an incredibly gentle, calm, and affectionate boy who truly enjoys being around his people. However, when Benny gets especially excited when he's getting affection from his people, he has a funny little habit of giving what we affectionately call “corncob nibbles” and it can be a bit much for very young children who may not understand what he is doing or may be startled by it.

Benny is kennel trained, leash trained, and potty trained. He will sleep in a kennel at night with no fuss if he has to, but enjoys a treat and some of his favorite toys as he settles in. He really loves when he gets to sleep in bed with his foster mom though and would love to snuggle up in bed with his family every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. When he needs to go outside and potty he will walk to the back door and start circling around to notify you he needs out. He does well staying in the kennel while his fosters are at work and will not have an accident in the kennel during a normal work day. He isn't destructive when he is left alone and out of the kennel, but likes to have his kennel as a safe space. He is comfortable walking on a leash and enjoys going out for walks around the neighborhood. He can sometimes get a little excited when he sees other dogs, but for the most part is pretty calm and is easily redirected with some yummy treats. He is happy to go on leisurely walks around the neighborhood but really loves to go on longer hiking trails where he can sniff and explore.

Benny's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would be able to live in apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as he has a human that works from home and can take him out for multiple leisurely walks every day. He is comfortable going up and down stairs so he would do fine living in a home with stairs. He does fine with a family that works outside of the home as long as he gets lots of cuddles and attention after work. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. Instead he would love to go on fun outings at Sniff Spots if he doesn't have a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would do love to have a family that has another friendly, confident dog and older kids over the age of 10 to play and snuggle with. He would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home too. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a professional cuddler, and a sweet soul who will look at you like you hung the moon, Benny could be the perfect addition to your family.
