Bourbon

Bourbon is a playful, outgoing 1.5 - 2 year old mixed breed dog that weighs 68 lbs. He is full grown and will not get any larger. Bourbon is confident, athletic, goofy, and best described as wiggly, silly, and tons of fun! He has an adventurous spirit and curious nature, and he is always up for a fun day exploring the outdoors. He is also very playful and spunky. He loves making doggy friends and will play, play, play until he's ready for a nap. Even though he acts like a goofy goober sometimes, he really is a quick learner and picks up commands with a little bit of positive reinforcement in the form of treats. He is very food motivated and would probably jump over the moon if you ask him to and he knows he would get a treat afterwards. He is very social and outgoing, and he does really well meeting new people. He puts on his sweet charm and tries to win them over with a goofy look on his face while sitting patiently waiting for affection. Once he gets affection, he turns into a silly boy all over again and gets full body wiggles. He has an easygoing, adaptable personality that allows him to fit into many different lifestyles. Want to hike scenic trails and explore the outdoors? He’s your adventure buddy. Prefer a cozy movie marathon the next day? He’ll be sprawled out beside you through the whole movie keeping himself busy with his chew bone or toys. Bourbon would thrive in a family that includes him in everyday life, takes him on fun adventures outdoors, and that appreciates his goofy, joyful spirit.
Bourbon is medium to high energy, and he never passes up the chance to go on a fun outdoor adventure with his humans. He loves playing with toys, romping around with his doggy friends, and cuddling on the couch with his foster mom. He is highly food motivated and loves play mental stimulation games, like puzzles that involve his favorite treats. Some of his favorite long lasting bones to work on while his humans are busy are elk antlers and bully sticks. He also loves running around the yard and play wrestling with the other dogs in his foster home. He has such a goofy, playful personality and is very animated when he is playing, making the funniest faces and getting zoomies around the yard. While he enjoys playing with his doggy and human friends, he’s also perfectly content to entertain himself with his favorite toys when he can't find anyone to play with. When he's ready for some down time, he will find a comfy spot on a dog bed and chew on a bone or will toss around his favorite toy to keep himself busy. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. Bourbon is the type of dog that would enjoy going on fun adventures exploring nature trails, hiking in the mountains, and romping around at the river. He would thrive with an active family that enjoys the outdoors.

Bourbon is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with multiple dogs of different ages and sizes. He does well coexisting with them all but can be a little much for the older senior dogs sometimes. When meeting his foster sisters for the first time he was very playful and excited, but acted appropriately and handled their corrections well when they were tired of his silly puppy antics. On walks he can get really excited when seeing dogs in the distance, but has a much calmer introduction when meeting a new dog on side by side walks. He would benefit from having another playful, active dog in his forever home. He knows proper doggy communication skills and how to respect boundaries with doggy friends, and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they don't want to play. He will scamper off to find something else to play with instead when he can't find a doggy playmate. He doesn't like to share his fresh chew bones with other dogs and will find a spot to chew on it where he won't be bothered by another dog trying to steal it from him. There is a kitty in his foster home and he doesn't pay any attention to it most of the time. Sometimes he tries to engage in play with the kitty, but respects their boundaries once he gets a swat in the face telling him to back off. He would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as he is playful and will want to play with them if there are no other dogs in the home. He would do well with kids that are 10 year old and up. He doesn't realize how big he is so he would easily knock over toddlers or babies in the home that aren't as steady on their feet. He loves to play, cuddle, and share his sweet puppy kisses so a family with older kids that can toss a ball with him in the backyard or engage in training games with him are ideal.

Bourbon is kennel trained, leash trained, and potty trained. He will sleep in a kennel at night with no fuss if he has to, but enjoys a treat and some of his favorite toys as he settles in. He really loves when he gets to sleep in bed with his foster mom though and would love to snuggle up in bed with his family every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. When he needs to go outside and potty he will walk to the back door and start circling around to notify you he needs out. He does well staying in the kennel while his fosters are at work and will not have an accident in the kennel during a normal work day. Because he is still young and would be tempted to check out what's on the counters if his humans aren't home, he does need to be kenneled when left alone. He is comfortable walking on a leash and enjoys going out for walks around the neighborhood. He does get excited when he sees other dogs, but is easily redirected with some yummy treats. He is happy to go on leisurely walks around the neighborhood but really loves to go on longer hiking trails where he can sniff and explore.

Bourbon's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. Because he is higher energy, he would not do well in an apartment unless he gets multiple exercise burning activities every day. He is comfortable going up and down stairs so he would do fine living in a home with stairs. He does fine with a family that works outside of the home as long as he gets to burn some energy as soon as they get home from work. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. Instead he would love to go on fun outings at Sniff Spots if he doesn't have a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would do love to have a family that has another friendly, active, playful dog around his size and older kids over the age of 10 to play and snuggle with. He would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home too. With his adaptable, fun-loving nature, he would be a wonderful fit for a variety of households. His ideal family is one that wants a playful pup to join in on fun outdoor adventures and also cuddle up on the couch after. He’s ready to grow up alongside a family who will cherish his playful spirit and include him in all of life’s big and small moments. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend and fun adventure buddy, Bourbon is the perfect pup for you.
