Olive

Olive is a sweet, gentle 3 month old wirehair terrier mix that weighs 8 lbs. She is estimated to be around 25-30 lbs when she is fully grown. This loving, cuddly pup just loves to be with her people and always wants to be involved with whatever her humans are doing. She is a true social butterfly that never passes up the chance to meet someone new. She has such a calm, gentle demeanor so she makes doggy friends quickly too. She’s naturally laid back, curious, and observant. She enjoys the simple things in life like lounging peacefully while sunbathing on the patio, stretching out in a cozy spot by your feet, or going on leisurely walks along quiet nature trails. She doesn’t need constant activity to be happy as she’s content just being near her people, soaking up love and companionship. When she's playing with the kids and other dogs in her foster home, her silly, affectionate personality really shines. She is the perfect pup for a family that lives a laid back lifestyle and wants a pup that can match their energy level. If you want to have a lazy day watching movies snuggled up on the couch, she's happy to join. If you want to go on a fun outing, whether it is going to brunch with friends at a dog-friendly restaurant, going on fun playdates with neighbors, or exploring nature trails around town, then she's up for that too.
Olive is low to medium energy, so she has short bursts of puppy energy that are quickly burned with playtime in the backyard with her doggy friends or playing fetch with the kids in her foster home. She would love a family that enjoys taking her on fun outdoor adventures, and also cuddling up on the couch for cuddles after. She is best described as an active couch potato because she's happy to lounge around as long as her human wants to, but the minute you want to go outside and play, she's ready to join you. Her favorite activities involve just being with her humans. She also enjoys mental stimulation activities like hide and seek games with hidden treats, or tug-o-war with her doggy friends. She keeps herself busy with her toys, chews, and puzzle games, and will happily entertain herself while you’re busy. She's the perfect pup for someone who works from home or that has a dog-friendly office because she will hang out on a dog bed next to your desk and keep herself entertained with her toys or taking naps while you work. She would be really happy if she had a monthly BarkBox subscription so she can get new fun toys and chews each month. Puzzle games and chew bones will also be great for keeping her busy indoors if you work from home because she will happily spend time curled up on a dog bed right next to your desk as you work.

Olive is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with two large Great Pyrenees, and she absolutely loves them. She will follow them around and wait patiently for one of them to engage in play time with her. She is the type of dog that matches another dog's energy. If they are playful and energetic, then she will be playful and energetic with them. If they are relaxing and lounging around, then she finds a spot next to them to lounge around too. She has learned proper doggy communication skills and boundaries from other dogs, and is very respectful of other dogs' personal space. She would benefit from having a confident, playful dog in her forever home that she can continue learning from. If there is a cat in her forever home, she would love to have one that is dog-friendly and that would occasionally be playful with her. Even if they don't want to play with her, she also would be content being their cuddle buddy. Olive is currently in a foster home with 5 children ranging in age from 4 to 11 and does great with them all. She's very gentle and loves to cuddle with them on the couch while they work on homework and watch tv. She is currently teething so she does need to be monitored to make sure she doesn't help herself to a child's toy to chew on. Since she is very sweet, gentle and affectionate, plus also very playful, she would do great with a family with kids of any age.
Olive is doing well with kennel training and potty training, but has not yet started leash training. She sleeps in a kennel at night, but will whine at first to see if she can convince you to let her out. She does well when she is tucked in with a treat and her favorite stuffed animal to cuddle with. She would love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible once she is fully potty trained. She is doing well with potty training and has learned to go to the back door to alert her foster mom she needs to go outside. She does still have the occasional potty on the potty pad by the back door, but she is improving every day. She will need to have consistent potty breaks to get on a good routine once she is in her forever home, so she will need someone that either works from home or lives nearby work so they can take her out for potty breaks on their lunch break while she settles in. It is recommended to put a doggy bell by the door and teach her to ring it every time she needs to go out. As long as she stays on a consistent schedule though, she will not have an accident inside. She is just now starting leash training and will need to continue working on this when she makes it to her forever home.
With her adaptable, fun-loving nature, Olive would be a wonderful fit for a variety of households. Her ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to sunbathe and play in. She will be able to adjust and live happily in a townhome or apartment that has lots of walking trails nearby since she does need a few walks and play sessions each day to help burn her puppy energy. She would love to have a family that has other dogs and kids to play and cuddle with. If she is the only dog in the home, she would benefit from going to doggy day care to help her burn her puppy energy, continue socializing, and to learn proper play etiquette with other dogs as she continues to grow. No public dog parks for this sweet girl (who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways). She would love to have a family that has other dogs and kids to play with, and would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home too. Whether she’s exploring the outdoors or curled up for snuggles, Olive just wants to share life with her people. She’s so excited to find a forever family who will give her all the love, cuddles, and companionship she dreams of.
