Declan is a playful, outgoing 2 month old border collie mix that weighs 6 lbs. He is estimated to be around 35-40 lbs once he is full grown. This sweet boy is a perfect blend of silly, social, cuddly, and curious. His stature may be small, but his personality stands tall! Declan is a lover of treats, naps, and belly rubs, and he’s convinced that all three should happen several times a day. While he’s super playful, his favorite part of every play session is the snuggle and nap time that follows. He is a certified goofball who will keep you laughing with his charming puppy antics and big, expressive personality. Curious by nature, Declan likes to be included in everything his humans do and always wants to be involved in the wrestling matches with the bigger pups in the home. His current foster home is off a river and he has shown a strong interest in the running water. He loves to watch it and explore near it, and when he gets older, he would be the type of pup that you can take on fun summertime outings like paddle boarding or swimming at the lake. Exploring the world and making people smile along the way is one of his greatest joys. Declan loves meeting new people and other dogs, and he’s very outgoing and social. He’s the class clown of his litter, always finding creative ways to entertain himself and everyone around him. He is truly the perfect combination of comical and cuddly, giving you the best of both worlds. Declan's ideal family is one that enjoys fun, adventure, and spending time outdoors. Whether it’s leisurely walks on nature trails, exploring new places, or visiting dog-friendly shops around town, Declan will be happiest right by your side, soaking up all the attention and love you’re willing to give. This sweet boy is ready to bring joy, laughter, and endless affection into his forever home. Declan is low-medium energy, so he enjoys a nice balance of playtime and relaxation. Right now because he is so young, he quickly burns his puppy energy through running around in the backyard and playtime with the other dogs in the foster home a few times a day. As he gets older, he will need longer walks or play time multiple times a day. This spunky boy loves romping around the backyard, exploring along the river bank, and playing with his favorite toys. He enjoys playing with his doggy friends, but he’s also perfectly content to entertain himself with his favorite toys when he can't find another pup to play with. He loves chasing after paper towel rolls and toys that have long pieces of fabric that he can pounce on before rolling around on the ground with it. He enjoys activities that give him a bit of mental stimulation, and would love to have some puzzle games and treat dispensing toys that he can work on to win the main prize, some yummy dog treats. As he grows and masters leash training, Declan would love to go on neighborhood walks or explore longer nature trails as he hikes with his humans. His future home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. Puzzle games and chew bones will also be great for keeping him busy indoors, especially as he starts teething soon.

Declan is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with both small and medium sized dogs, and also some kitties. He loves to play and cuddle with other dogs of any size and age. He loves other furry friends and would love to have another playful dog in his forever home. He would be perfectly fine being the only dog in the home, but he would benefit from having frequent play dates with other dogs as he grows up so he continues learning proper doggy communication skills and play etiquette. He is a social butterfly when it comes to making new dog friends and would benefit from having another playful dog in his forever home. He has learned proper doggy communication skills and boundaries from his older doggy friends, and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they are tired of his puppy antics. He will scamper off to find something else to play with instead when he can't find a doggy playmate. Because of his young age and friendly demeanor, he would be able to join a family that has a cat in the home. He loves to play with the younger kitties and respects the space of the older cats that do not appreciate his puppy antics as much. Since he is a goofy, playful puppy, he would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as he is a puppy and will want to play with them. Declan would do well with kids of all ages. He loves to play and share his sweet puppy kisses with everyone he meets. He is very gentle and sweet, and would be perfect for a family with kids. He is going to start teething soon, so his humans will need to keep a watchful eye on him to make sure he doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around.  

 

Declan is kennel trained, and is currently working on mastering potty training and leash training. He sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss, but enjoys a treat and some toys as he settles in. When he gets older, he would love to snuggle up in bed with his humans every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. He is doing well with potty training and will use a potty pad if he needs to go and his foster mom doesn't let him out quick enough. He is still learning how to alert at the back door to notify his fosters that he needs to go out to potty. He will need to have consistent potty breaks to get on a good routine once he is in his forever home, so he will need someone that either works from home or lives nearby work so they can take him out for potty breaks on their lunch break. His foster family is starting to work on leash training, but he will need additional practice to perfect his leash walking skills as he gets older.

Declan's ideal home would be one where he can be included in his family’s daily life and get plenty of love, exercise, and attention. He would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to run and play in, but he’d also be perfectly content in an apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as he gets regular walks and playtime. Since he’s still a young puppy, he will need someone home most of the day or that's able to take him to the office if working a hybrid schedule as he still needs frequent potty breaks and socialization. He would thrive in a home with other dogs and kids to run around and play with, and can even coexist with some kitties in the home too. If he is the only dog in the home, he would benefit from going to doggy day care to help him burn his puppy energy and to learn proper play etiquette with other dogs as he continues to grow. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. He would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots or doggy day care occasionally for playtime and exercise if he does live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private fenced-in yard.  Declan's ideal home would be with a fun, adventurous, loving family that enjoys a balance of outdoor adventures and cozy cuddle time, and that will let him be his playful, goofy self and love him unconditionally for it.
