Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a sweet, silly 2.5 month old Chow Chow / bully mix that weighs 20 lbs. He is estimated to be around 75-80 lbs once he is full grown. This affectionate cuddle bug absolutely loves to be held and snuggled on by his humans. He adores the kids in his foster home and never misses an opportunity to shower them with sweet puppy kisses. He has a goofy, playful personality that shines through when he is playing with his doggy friend. He is the life of the party and makes his foster family laugh daily with his silly antics. He would thrive in a loving family that enjoys including their pup in daily life. He is the perfect balance of laid-back and active, so he will be happy to join in on outdoor fun adventures and also be perfectly content snuggled up on the couch with his favorite humans for a lazy day watching movies. Forrest is always happy to be right by your side. He is the perfect companion for someone who is looking for a loving pup that also is a total goofball and will make you laugh on a daily basis.

Forrest is low to medium energy, so he is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that are quickly burned with playtime in the backyard and mental stimulation games. He loves puzzle games, treat dispensing toys, hide and treat games as he is very food motivated. He loves to sit outside, take everything in around him, and sunbathe in the grass. He loves playing with toys and has picked up on playing fetch. He loves engaging in fun games with the kids in his foster home and will roll around on his back to let them know he wants to play. He also enjoys playing hide and seek will slide under the coffee table or chair and plop down with just his back legs sticking out as he waits for one of the kids to come find him to play. As he grows and masters leash training, Forrest would love to go on casual neighborhood walks or even explore nature trails on longer hikes with his humans. His future home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys. He’d really love having a monthly BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. Puzzle games and chew bones will also be great for keeping him busy indoors, especially as he is teething. A little exercise, some fun adventures, and plenty of love from his humans are all he needs to be content.

Forrest is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He absolutely adores kids and seems to open up to show his playful, silly side quickest when he's around kids. He would do well with kids of all ages. His favorite humans in his foster home are the two middle school age children. He loves to play and share his sweet puppy kisses with them every chance he gets. He is going to start teething soon so his humans will need to keep a watchful eye on him to make sure he doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around in his reach. Since he is very gentle, cuddly, and playful, he would do great with a family with kids who want a loving pup to grow up with.He loves to play and cuddle with other dogs of any size and age, too. He is a social butterfly when it comes to making new dog friends and would benefit from having another confident, outgoing dog in his forever home to learn from as he grows. He has learned proper doggy communication skills and boundaries and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they are tired of his puppy antics. When he can't find a doggy playmate, he will entertain himself with his toys. Because of his young age and laid back demeanor, he would be able to acclimate to having a cat in his forever home. Since he is a silly puppy, he would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before.

Forrest is kennel trained and has almost mastered potty training. He has not yet started leash training due to his young age. He sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss as long as he gets a yummy treat and some toys to keep him busy before he falls asleep. He will not make a peep until he's ready to go potty and play in the morning. When he gets older, he would love to snuggle up in bed with his humans every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. For now while he is still potty training, it is recommended to use a kennel or puppy play pen at night and when you are not home. He is doing well with potty training since transitioning to going potty outside. When he is inside and needs to go, he will make his way to the back door to signal he needs to be let out. He knows when his fosters say the word "potty" that it's his cue to head outside for a potty break. He has done well learning how to alert his fosters when he needs to go outside. He will need his human to help him perfect his leash walking skills and remaining neutral on walks so he doesn't get overly excited to meet a new dog in case that dog doesn't want a new puppy friend once he is in his forever home.

Forrest's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse and would prefer if his human either works from home or can take him into a dog-friendly office while he is still young. He would also love to go to doggy day care a few times a week if there are no other dogs in the home so that he can have some fun playing with other doggy friends. No public dog parks for this little boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. He does need to have someone home most of the day, can take him out on their lunch break, or that can take him into the office if working a hybrid schedule as he still needs frequent potty breaks every few hours. Forrest would thrive in a family that enjoys spending time together and including their pup in daily life. He’d be a wonderful fit for a household with children since he adores kids, or in a home with another friendly dog to keep him company. His ideal family would give him opportunities to play, go for walks, and socialize, but also value quiet cuddle time at home. Whether it’s an active couple, a family with kids, or even someone looking for a loyal sidekick who will always stay close, Forrest will shine in a home where he’s loved and made part of the family’s everyday adventures.
