Layne

Layne is a super sweet, cuddly 3 month old terrier mix that weighs 12 lbs. He will be around 55-60 lbs when he is full grown. Layne is best described as affectionate, loving, silly, and easy going. Curious by nature, Layne likes to be included in everything his humans do. He’ll follow close behind like a loyal little shadow, making sure he doesn’t miss out on any of the action. As soon as you sit down, he wiggles his way into your lap for cuddles and snuggles. He absolutely loves people and is a true social butterfly when he goes out in public. His favorite outing so far has been at an outdoor dog-friendly restaurant and beer garden, and he loved being passed around from person to person just soaking up all the cuddles he could get. When he was ready for a nap, he sprawled out on his back in someone's arms and fell asleep while he was being rocked like baby. He also has a goofy, fun-loving personality that really makes him the life of the party. He thrives on exploring the world around him and would be the perfect companion for a family that enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and nature walks. He plays hard and naps even harder. When he's ready for a nap, he will plop on the floor, roll on his back, and stretch his legs out as he falls asleep. If you work from home, Layne might just be your dream coworker. He’s perfectly content lounging near your desk, happily chewing on a bone or playing with his toys while you attend virtual work meetings. He is a smart, determined pup that learns quickly. He likes to work on puzzle games and will keep at it until he gets the prizes (yummy treats). He has the ideal balance of playful energy and an easygoing spirit. Whether it’s romping with toys, tagging along for new adventures, or simply being part of whatever his humans are up to, you can count on him to want to join in.

Layne is a low to medium energy pup that requires a few short energy burning activities per day. As he gets older, his energy level may increase slightly, but he's best described as a perfect mix of active and laid back. He enjoys playing with the kitties in his foster home and rolling around on the floor as he chases his favorite toys around the room. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. He is very food motivated and is easily entertained with mental stimulation games, like puzzles and treat dispensing toys, that he can work on to get yummy treats as a prize. As he gets older, he would love to join his family on walks, hikes, and exploring the outdoors. Although he loves the outdoors and romping around, he’s equally happy with slow, cozy days filled with movie marathons and afternoon naps. Layne is the type of pup that he doesn’t need constant entertainment. If his humans are busy, he’s perfectly capable of entertaining himself. He’ll happily settle down with a toy, chew contentedly on a bone, or play with a treat dispensing puzzle to keep himself busy. His adaptable energy level makes him a great fit for families who want a dog that can keep up when it’s time to be active, but also knows how to settle in and relax for lots of cuddle time.

Layne is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with two cats and loves to interact with them every chance he gets. They tolerate him being around, but don't play much with him. They will allow him to come near though. He knows that when they go to their cat tree that he has to leave them alone. Since he is a silly, playful puppy, he would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as he is a puppy and will want to play with them. He is a social butterfly when it comes to making new dog friends and would benefit from having another playful dog in his forever home. He is still working on learning proper doggy communication skills and respecting boundaries so he would benefit from a tolerant, friendly dog teaching him how to properly interact with other dogs as he grows up. Layne absolutely adores kids and has been so sweet to the ones he's met so far. Because of his sweet, gentle, playful personality, he would do well with kids of all ages. He loves to play, cuddle, and share his sweet puppy kisses with everyone he meets. He is going through the teething stage, so his humans will need to keep a watchful eye on him to make sure he doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around.

Layne is kennel trained, and is currently working perfecting his leash walking and potty training skills. He sleeps in playpen at night with no fuss, but does need some treats or toys to settle in. Once he's in bed for the night, he stays asleep until his foster mom wakes up for work in the morning. When he gets older, he would love to snuggle up in bed with his humans every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. He does well with going outside to potty as long as a consistent schedule is followed. He normally has to go out at least once every 3-4 hours, but will sleep through the night without needing a potty break. He is still learning how to alert his fosters that he needs to go outside when he is free roaming around the house, but will whine and bark to let them know he needs to potty when he's in his playpen. He is still learning how to walk on a leash, so isn't the most perfect gentleman on one yet. He will need additional practice to perfect his leash walking skills in his forever home. He is very food motivated and responds well with treats, so just bring some of his favorite snacks and he is happy to pay attention while he's learning.

Layne's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse, but does need multiple walks each day for exercise and plenty of potty breaks. He would love to go to the occasional Sniff Spot for exercise and play time if he does live in an apartment or townhome without a fenced in yard. He would love to have a furry friend in his forever home, and would be equally happy with a cat or dog to play with. He would also love to go to doggy day care a few times a week if there are no other dogs in the home so that he can have some fun playing with other doggy friends. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. He is the perfect pup for a family with kids because he loves to cuddle and loves to play. With his adaptable, gentle, laid back personality, he would be a wonderful fit for a variety of households. Whether you’re heading out for an adventure or staying in for a cozy night on the couch, Layne will be right there, ready to match your vibe and be your loyal companion every step of the way.
