Luisa

Luisa is a sweet, spunky 3-4 year old wirehair terrier mix that weighs 9 lbs. She is full grown and will not get any larger. Don’t let her small size fool you! This little girl has a big personality and an even bigger heart. Luisa is a friendly, playful cuddle bug who loves nothing more than being with her people. She is a true social butterfly who enjoys meeting new people and is always happy to make a new friend. When someone new comes around, Luisa is eager to say hello and will patiently wait for them to come over and give her some attention. She absolutely loves being included and wants to be wherever the people are.
When she isn't busy making friends, Luisa loves all the best things in life, like belly rubs, chasing after balls, playing with her doggy friends, chewing on her favorite bones, and curling up for a cozy nap on her foster mom's lap. She is incredibly affectionate and never turns down an opportunity for snuggles, scratches, or a little extra attention. Once she decides you're her person, be prepared to have a tiny shadow following you around the house all day every day. She would make a wonderful companion for someone who works from home or is retired, but still active, and would enjoy having a little sidekick around throughout the day. She is perfectly content hanging out in your computer chair, curling up on a dog bed next to your desk, or quietly working on a chew bone while you take care of business. She doesn't need constant entertainment and is happy simply being near her people. But don't let her calm workday routine fool you. Once the workday is over, Luisa is ready to have some fun. She enjoys playing with her favorite toys, chasing balls, spending time with her doggy friends, and getting out to enjoy life with her family. She has that fun terrier personality that keeps things entertaining while still being incredibly affectionate and people-oriented. Luisa would love a forever family who will make her a true member of the family and give her plenty of companionship, affection, playtime, and opportunities to be included in their daily life. She would be happiest with someone who enjoys having a little companion by their side and appreciates a dog who can go from playful and spunky to cuddly and cozy in no time. If you're looking for a tiny best friend with a huge personality, a playful spirit, and a serious love of cuddles, Luisa may be the perfect match for you! Give this sweet girl a lap to nap on, a ball to chase, a few belly rubs, and a family to call her own, and she'll happily return the favor with endless love, companionship, and plenty of adorable terrier personality.
Luisa is medium energy, so she is not going to be a lazy lap dog. She is playful, spunky, and loves to romp around the backyard with her doggy friends. She requires a few energy burning activities per day, like walks around the neighborhood, playing fetch or tug-o-war in the backyard, or play time with other dogs. If you want to go on a fun outdoor adventure, Luisa will happily join you on a long hike, fun day at the beach, or exploring nature trails. Once she has burned her energy, she is happy to cuddle up on the couch for a relaxing movie and nap with her humans. She also loves puzzles and treat dispensing toys that she can work on to get yummy treats as a prize. Her ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and she’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. If her humans are busy around the house, she’s perfectly capable of entertaining herself. She’ll happily settle down with a toy, chew contentedly on a bone, or play with a treat dispensing puzzle to keep herself busy. Her adaptable energy level makes her a great fit for families who want a dog that can keep up when it’s time to be active, but also knows how to settle in and relax for lots of cuddle time.

Luisa is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with two larger dogs, but was previously with three smaller dogs. She would love to have another playful doggy companion in her forever home, and doesn't mind if they're big or small. She can be a bit rambunctious when she is play wrestling, so she would not do well with an older dog who doesn't want to play because she is still learning that not all dogs want to be her playmate. She would be okay if there wasn't another dog in the home only if her human is home more often than not and can give her lots of attention, playtime, and exercise. There is also a cat in her foster home and she just leaves her alone. If the cat walks up to her, she will politely exit the area and give the kitty plenty of personal space. She would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before, but wouldn't mind if there weren't any cats in the home at all because they're kind of intimidating to her. She has met kids before and hasn't shown much interest in them. She will accept treats from them, but loses interest after that. If there are kids in the home, she would do best with kids that are 10 years old and older because they will need to give her time to warm up to them. She is much more comfortable with teenagers and adults though.
Luisa is leash trained and potty trained, and is still getting the hang of kennel training. She will sleep in a kennel at night with no fuss as long as the kennel is by your bed at night. She has to be bribed to go in initially with treats and her favorite chew bone. She does need consistent potty breaks every few hours. She has started alerting her foster mom that she needs to go out by whining at the door. If she isn't let out quickly enough, she will use a potty pad by the back door. She should be limited to a smaller area initially to get used to a routine and be taken out every 3-4 hours while she settles into her new home. Once she gets the hang of it, she will go longer between potty breaks. She would also benefit from having a doggy doorbell by the back door in her forever home so she can notify you when she needs to go out. She will make it through the night without an accident, but needs to be taken out first thing in the morning when she wakes up. She does well walking on a leash and will not pull when she is walking. She is not reactive towards other dogs or people while on leash, but shows curiosity when she passes by a new potential furry friend. You can encourage her to continue walking by telling her "c'mon Luisa".
Luisa's ideal home would be one where she can be included in her family’s daily life and get plenty of love, exercise, and attention. She would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to run and play in. She’d also be perfectly content in an apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as her human works from home and she gets regular walks and playtime. She would thrive in a home with another playful, friendly dog to romp around and play with. No public dog parks for this sweet girl because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. She would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots for playtime and exercise if she doesn't have a private fenced-in yard. If you work out of the home, she would benefit from going to doggy day care a few days a week so she can burn energy and play with some doggy friends. She would be fine sharing her space with a dog-friendly cat or older kids, but would really love to have another playful, energetic dog companion. If you're looking for a small companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Luisa could be your perfect match! She’s ready to fill her forever home with playful antics, cozy cuddles, and plenty of love.
