Michael (Mikey)

Michael (aka Mikey) is a friendly, affectionate 3 year old Yorkie that weighs 12 lbs. He is fully grown and will not get any larger. Mikey is best described as sweet, loving, calm, and laid back. His favorite place in the world is wherever his people are, and he loves to go along for the ride no matter where you are going. He's confident and happy to join you on car rides around town, walks around the neighborhood, and going to dog-friendly stores where he can sniff around and explore the world around him. He's happiest when he's close to his family and loves nothing more than curling up for cuddles or resting his head in your lap after a fun day. When his foster family gets home from work, Mikey greets them by jumping up and down like a little hippity-hoppy bunny rabbit. He is a social butterfly that loves being around both humans and dog friends. He is the type of dog that just seamlessly fits in with other dogs he meets. Around other dogs, he is friendly, easygoing, and comfortable. Rather than needing to be the center of attention, he often enjoys following the resident dogs around, observing what they are doing, and taking cues from them. If they wander around the house or backyard, Mikey is happy to tag along and see what everyone is up to. As soon as they hop on the couch to nap, he's right there next to them snuggling up for a snooze. His friendly, social personality always makes it easy for him to make a new friend, whether it's human or furry. When he gets to go for a fun car ride, he will hop on the console so he doesn't miss anything going on outside. He's very curious and enjoys exploring the world around him. He's the perfect pup for someone that works from home because he is calm, quiet, and loves to hang out with his human as much as possible. He just wants to experience life with his people, whether that means going on an adventure or doing absolutely nothing together. Mikey is ready to find a family who will appreciate his gentle nature, include him in their adventures, and give him all the love and companionship he deserves.

Mikey is lower energy, and is a perfect balance of playful, laid back and easy going. His idea of the perfect day involves plenty of lounging, cuddling, and quality time with his favorite people. He doesn't need a lot of physical activity, but he loves to go on walks around the neighborhood and car rides around town. He also enjoys playing with his doggy friends, and will happily join in on a fun game of tug-o-war or chase around the yard. He also loves playing fetch with his toys and will even entertain himself by digging out his favorite toys from his toy box to play with when his foster family is busy or at work. He can get silly and playful when he’s in the mood, but once playtime is over, he is perfectly happy to settle back down and relax. His favorite thing in the world is cuddling on the couch with his foster family. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he'd be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. His future family will appreciate his relaxed pace, love for exploring, and enjoy cozy nights cuddled up watching movies. He has enough curiosity and personality to enjoy new experiences, enough playfulness to have fun with his toys and canine friends, and enough of a relaxed nature to genuinely appreciate downtime.

Mikey is incredibly dog-friendly and would thrive in a home with a friendly, laid-back canine companion or two. He is currently living in a foster home with smaller dogs that are all seniors, and he gets along beautifully with all of them. He will peacefully coexist with them and wait for them to initiate playtime with him. Whether they're quietly hanging out together, sharing toys, or enjoying a gentle game of tug-of-war, Mikey is always happy to spend time with a furry friend. One of Mikey's most endearing qualities is his excellent dog manners. When meeting a new canine friend, he's calm, polite, and respectful. He's always happy to make a new friend, but he doesn't overwhelm other dogs with over-the-top excitement. Instead, he approaches introductions with confidence and a relaxed demeanor, making him an easy companion for many different personalities. Mikey has lived with children before and would do best in a home with children ages 10 years old and older. Because of his small size, homes with small toddlers or babies will not be considered. He takes treats with the softest mouth, carefully and politely accepting them before quietly wandering off to enjoy his snack. He has wonderful manners and isn't pushy or demanding, making him an easy dog to live with. Mikey loves to be included in family activities, and he'll happily soak up every bit of love and affection he's given, but he's also capable of being independent when his humans are busy. Mikey was previously in a home with cats, and was tormented by one of them so he tends to be nervous around kitties. Because of that, Mikey's future home will be cat-free for his own comfort and peace.
Mikey is kennel trained, potty trained, and leash trained. He will go into the kennel if he needs to, but he's perfectly fine being left out without being destructive or having accidents in the home. He sleeps with his foster family in bed every night and loves to snuggle up close so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. He can walk on a leash and is a gentleman when walking around in the pet stores and short, leisurely walks around the block. He will even walk next to a doggy stroller that has the senior dogs in his foster home in it and doesn't mind at all. His walks are usually very leisurely and he isn't one that wants to go on marathon runs with his human. He is potty trained and will notify you that he needs to go out by doing sitting at the back door. His foster family has him on a schedule of going outside every 4-5 hours and he does well on a consistent schedule. Mikey does need to be brushed multiple times a week to prevent matting and will need to go to a groomer every 6-8 weeks. Having an experienced adopter that is familiar with a dog that needs frequent grooming appointments is preferred.

Mikey's ideal home is one where he can spend lots of quality time with his humans. He thrives on companionship and would prefer having a family that is home more often than not. A home with a securely fenced yard would be a dream come true for Mikey because he loves to sunbathe and lounge around on the porch with his doggy friends when it isn't too hot outside. While he isn't a high energy dog who needs to run laps around the yard, he thoroughly enjoys wandering at his own pace, sniffing every interesting scent, soaking up the sunshine, and taking in the world around him. Mikey could also adapt well to living in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private yard, provided his family is committed to meeting his needs with regular walks, enrichment activities, and plenty of time together. Because he isn't overly active and is happiest lounging with his people, the size of the home matters far less than the amount of companionship he receives. A person who works from home would make apartment living especially successful for him. Mikey would do best if he was able to share his life with another friendly, easygoing dog, or even a few doggy friends. His ideal canine companion would be one with a similar laid-back personality. His perfect doggy match would enjoy a little playtime, doesn't mind sharing toys, and enjoys relaxing on the couch together afterward. He would love to have a family with children ages 10 and older. Because Mikey forms strong bonds with his people, he'd especially enjoy if his human works from home, is a stay-at-home spouse, or is retired. He truly blossoms when he has companionship and someone to share his day with. Mikey's looking for a family that appreciates life's quieter moments. If you're searching for a loyal companion who will happily keep you company on fun outings around town and never pass up an opportunity to cuddle, Mikey may just be the perfect addition to your family.
