Miklo

Miklo is a super sweet, affectionate 1.5 - 2 year old poodle mix that weighs 12 lbs. He is fully grown and will not get any larger, making him the perfect compact companion for almost any lifestyle. Don’t let his small size fool you. Miklo is packed full of personality, love, and joyful puppy energy. He is affectionate, playful, easygoing, and incredibly friendly. He absolutely adores his people and truly thrives on human companionship. Being close to his humans is his favorite place to be, whether that means tagging along on outdoor adventures, joining you for a stroll around the neighborhood, or curling up beside you on the couch after a fun-filled day. He has a wonderful balance of both playful and laid-back cuddle energy, making him equally happy playing with his toys or relaxing in your lap. Out in public, Miklo is a total social butterfly. He loves meeting new people and other doggy friends and greets everyone with an big smile on his face. He happily soaks up affection from anyone willing to give it and will often crawl into someone's lap for cuddles the moment they stop to say hello. When he’s especially happy, he’ll even do his adorable little “corn cob” nibbles on your arm, his way of showing pure love and affection. Miklo’s friendly, outgoing nature makes him a joy to take just about anywhere. He would be an excellent companion for visiting friends, riding through dog-friendly stores in a cart, spending a sunny afternoon at a brewery, or enjoying brunch on a pet-friendly patio. He loves being included and is always excited to be part of whatever his people are doing.

Miklo is lower energy, but he enjoys a nice balance of playtime and fun activities, and also a good bit of relaxation. He needs a few short energy-burning activities throughout the day, whether that is just a  short walk around the neighborhood or playtime with his toys inside the home. He enjoys following his foster mom around the house and is curious to watch what she's doing when she is up and about, but he is good about playing with his toys and doggy friends when his foster mom is busy working from home. He is good about self-entertaining and will grab a chew bone or one of his toys, plop down on a dog bed, and entertain himself until he's ready for a nap. He enjoys puzzle games and treat dispensing toys, not so much because he needs the mental stimulation, but because he is really food motivated and loves his yummy treats. He would do best in a lower energy home environment where he can go on short, leisurely walks or outings around town. Since Miklo is unstable on his back legs due to a past spinal injury, he may need to be carried when he gets tired or if there are a lot of people walking as he may not be able to get out of the way quickly when there are lots of legs to maneuver around. But for the most part, he gets along just fine walking on his own and enjoys the freedom of walking on a leash out in public. He's not going to be the type of pup that you can take on long hikes or do a lot of physical activity due to his limited mobility -- unless you're willing to carry him in a doggy sling or backpack. He would love to join his human on fun outdoor activities, but he does need assistance when his back legs get tired.

Miklo
is dog, cat, and kid friendly. Miklo is in a foster home with two other dogs and enjoys their company. He does especially well with dogs that match his size and energy level as they tend to play more gently with him. Ideally, he would have a forever home with a family that has another dog his size because he loves being around a doggy friend. He could live in a home with a larger dog that is calm, gentle, and lower energy, but no high energy dogs that may run him over accidentally. He would also be fine being the only dog in the home as long as his human works from home or is a stay at home parent, but because he has a playful spirit and benefits from regular canine interactions, doggy play dates are a must. When it comes to cats, Miklo did not mind the outdoor roaming cats and even shared their food with them when he was a stray on the streets. He would be perfectly fine integrating into a home with a kitty friend as long as the kitty is dog-friendly and wouldn't mind having Miklo to cuddle with. Due to Miklo's small size and prior spinal injury, he can only be adopted into a home with kids over 10 years old that can understand that they need to be gentle with him. He is very loving, affectionate, and cuddly so he would love to have older kids around because the more hands for belly rubs, the better.

Miklo is potty trained as long as he is taken out frequently. If there is a male dog in the home, he tends to mark initially, but that can be managed with a belly band until he settles in and acclimates. His foster mom currently takes him out to potty every 4 hours and he will follow the resident dogs outside to do his business after them. He does need to be kenneled when his humans leave for extended periods of time and also at night to ensure he does not have any accidents while he is settling into his new home and gets on a new routine. He would benefit from having a doggy doorbell that he can be taught to ring when he needs to go outside in his forever home. He walks well on a leash, and is a perfect gentleman when walking in public spaces. He does just fine on a collar and leash when walking, and can wear a harness with a front clip (no back clip harness that will put strain on his spine). He is not reactive to other dogs or people, but she does get excited to see a new person and will get a happy wiggle butt if he thinks he's going to make a new friend. He can be encouraged to continue on the walk with treats though if needed. He rotates between sleeping in a kennel at night and on a dog bed at night in his foster mom's room. If his foster mom knows she will be sleeping in on the weekend, he has to be kenneled so he doesn't have an accident in the house. He needs someone that is home more often than not, so someone that works from home, is retired, or a stay at home spouse is necessary. He cannot be in a home where he is kenneled for 8+ hours a day and also kenneled 8+ hours at night. He does need more desensitization to being groomed, so frequent trips to the groomer to introduce him and get him used to the sounds of the clippers is a must before he is dropped off for a full grooming session. He is very friendly with everyone he meets, but can be really squirmy when the clippers are being used to trim around his feet and face. He will *not* be mouthy or try to bite, but he does get stressed out and will try to escape, so to prevent injury to his spine, going slow and giving him breaks is recommended.

Miklo's ideal home would be one where he can be included in his family’s daily life, and get plenty of love and cuddle time. He would do well with adults, seniors, or families with respectful children who understand gentle handling. He would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to sunbathe and play in with other doggy friends, but he’d also be perfectly content in an apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as he gets regular walks and playtime. He will need someone home most of the day or that's able to take him to the office if working a hybrid schedule as he still needs frequent potty breaks (plus he would love the extra socialization). He would be happy to live with other dogs that are around his size and that are lower energy, gentle, and laid back. He would be happy to live with kids over 10 years old that understand they have to be gentle with him, and can coexist with some kitties in the home too. If he is the only dog in the home, he would benefit from having doggy play dates with dogs similar in size and energy level. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. Miklo's ideal home environment is one that is loving and stable, where he can be close to his humans, get regular mental and physical stimulation, and be treated like part of the family. His cheerful personality, adaptable size, and affectionate nature make him a wonderful match for someone looking for a joyful, loyal companion who brings smiles wherever he goes.
