Opal is a super sweet and cuddly 3 month old Rottweiler / Shepherd mix that weighs 26 lbs. She is expected to be around 70-75 lbs when is she full grown. Opal is always ready for fun and cuddles. She is a social butterfly and loves to met new people, especially kids. She is super affectionate, loving and absolutely adores being doted on by her humans. Her favorite humans are the kids in her foster home. She finds every chance to snuggle up next to them for some belly rubs. She really enjoys being outdoors, rolling around in the grass, and napping in the sun. She is curious and confident by nature and is always the first to investigate new toys, noises, and people. She thrives on exploring the world around her and would be the perfect companion for a family that enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and nature walks. She's the type of pup that will always be happy to join her humans on whatever outdoor adventure they want to partake in, and also is perfectly content being your snuggly companion on lazy movie days around the house. Her laid back demeanor is perfect for a family that wants a pup that can adapt to any activity they want to involve her in. She really is always happy no matter what she is doing. Whether it is playing with the other dogs in her foster home, cuddling with her foster family, or tossing around her toys and chasing after them around the yard, Opal is going to have a good time doing it. She is the kind of pup that can be active, playful and curious when it’s time to have some fun, but also laid back and mellow when it’s time to relax and lounge around on the couch. She is also good about self-entertaining and appreciates her solo playtime with her toys. Whether it's exploring nature trails, going to dog-friendly outings, or just lounging around and cuddling on the couch, Opal would be a perfect fit for a family who enjoys including their pup in their daily activities.

Opal is medium energy, so she is pretty mellow with short bursts of puppy energy that are quickly burned with brief exercise and play sessions. Her favorite activities include playing some fun mental stimulation games that involve yummy treats, playing in the backyard, and tossing her toys around the room then chasing after them. She also loves to play with other dogs and her face lights up when she meets a new furry friend. While she enjoys playing with her doggy friends, she’s also perfectly content to entertain herself with her favorite toys when she can't find another pup to play with. As Opal grows and masters her leash skills, she’ll be excited to expand her adventures beyond the backyard. She is very food motivated and is eager to engage in training activities as long as food is involved. She would love to join her humans for casual neighborhood walks in the evenings or exploring longer nature trails on the weekends. Hiking through the woods, splashing around near the water, or strolling through town for some new sights and smells, Opal will always be happy to go along for the ride. With her adaptable energy level, she’s just as content with a short playtime activities as she is going on a bigger, more adventurous outings.

Opal is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She loves other furry friends and would love to have another playful dog in her forever home. She would be perfectly fine being the only dog in the home, but she would benefit from having frequent play dates with other dogs as she grows up so she continues learning proper doggy communication skills and play etiquette. She would do best in a home with another dog that is patient and playful as she is a puppy and an older dog who isn't used to puppy energy and silly antics may not appreciate having a young little fur-sister around. Because of her young age and playful demeanor, if there is a cat in her forever home, slow introductions are a must. Since she is a playful puppy, she would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before and don't mind standing their ground when she gets to be too much for them because she is a puppy and will want to play with them. Using a baby gate to keep her separated from kitties is recommended for the first few days to let her and the cat to get acclimated with each other before doing leashed introductions. Opal is currently in a foster home with kids around day care age through elementary school age, and she loves them all!  She loves being around the kids more than anyone else in the home and never passes up a chance to share her sweet puppy kisses with them. She would do well with kids of all ages as she has a sweet, gentle demeanor, but may trip a small child who isn't steady on their feet while she is still young and wiggly.. The more kids to love, the better though because she loves them all. She is going to start teething soon so her humans will need to keep a watchful eye on her to make sure she doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around in her reach. Since she is very fun-loving, cuddly, and sweet, she would do great with a family with kids who want a loving and playful pup to grow up with.

Opal is kennel trained, has mastered potty training, and is starting leash training. She has transitioned outside for potty training and is excelling. She has started leash training and has confidence walking on one, but she will need additional practice with that when she gets to her forever home. She is very confident and is comfortable walking short distances while leashed, but is a puppy and still gets distracted along the way. She sleeps in a kennel and playpen setup at night with no fuss. She just needs a yummy treat to snack on before she falls asleep. When she gets older, she would love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible. For now while she is still young, it is recommended to get her on a consistent schedule for potty breaks (every 4-5 hours), and use a kennel or puppy play pen at night and when you are not home. When she is inside the house and needs to go potty , she will make her way to the back door, put her feet on the back door and starts pacing to get your attention. Using a doggy doorbell to teach her to ring it to go outside is recommended to prevent accidents and get your attention when she needs to potty.

Opal's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. She would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse and would prefer if her human either works from home or can take her into a dog-friendly office while she is still young. When she gets a little older, she would also love to go to doggy day care and have playdates a few times a week if there are no other dogs in the home so that she can have some fun playing with other doggy friends. No public dog parks for this little girl because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. She would love to have a family that has other dogs and kids, and would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home. She would be perfectly fine being the center of attention in her forever home, too. She does need to have someone home most of the day or that can take her into the office if working a hybrid schedule as she still needs frequent potty breaks every few hours. With her adaptable, happy nature, Opal would be a wonderful fit for a variety of families. Whether you’re looking for a playful pup to join in on your adventures, or a laid-back companion to keep you company at home, Opal is up for joining her human in whatever activities they want to do.
