Ranger is a smart, loyal 8 year old Corgi and Australian Shepherd mix that weighs 25 lbs. He is fully grown and will not get any larger.  Ranger is the kind of dog who forms deep, lasting bonds with his people. While he may take a little time to warm up to someone new, once you've earned his trust, you'll have a loyal best friend for life. He loves being close to his favorite people, whether that's curled up at your feet while you relax, stretched out nearby on the couch, or keeping you company on leisurely walks around the neighborhood One of the best parts of Ranger's day is greeting his people when they come home. He'll welcome you back like you've just returned from a year-long trip, even if you only stepped outside to take the trash out. He's not dramatic or anything, just really loves when he has his humans home with him. Ranger is also an incredibly smart and eager to learn. He picks up new skills quickly and genuinely enjoys training games, especially when they involved his favorite treats. He's not really what we would call a social butterfly, but he does prefer meeting new people at his own pace. Rather than reaching out to pet him immediately, the best way to earn his trust is to let him investigate, offer a tasty treat, and allow him to decide when he's ready for affection. Think of him as the guy at the party who's hanging out by the snack table before deciding who he wants to talk to. Once Ranger feels comfortable, his sweet and affectionate personality shines through. He enjoys gentle pets, takes treats with a soft mouth, and quickly becomes the kind of loyal companion who will happily be your shadow, your biggest fan, and your self-appointed supervisor for every task you attempt around the house. Ranger's perfect match is someone who appreciates the quieter side of life. He would do best with an older individual or couple in a calm home without young children or a steady stream of visitors. Once he settles in and knows he's safe, Ranger's loyal, affectionate personality shines, and he'll happily spend his days being your faithful sidekick.

 

Ranger is on the lower-energy side and is best described as a fluffy couch potato with an adventurous streak. He's perfectly content spending most of the day lounging near his favorite people, catching up on his beauty sleep, and supervising household activities from the comfort of the couch. If you're looking for a dog that needs hours of exercise every day, Ranger probably isn't your guy, and he'd likely tell you that excessive cardio in this Texas heat is overrated anyway. That said, Ranger still enjoys getting out and about. A leisurely stroll around the neighborhood each day is usually enough to keep him happy, giving him plenty of opportunities to sniff the latest "pee-mail" from the neighborhood dogs and take in all the sights and smells. When the weather is cooler, though, his adventurous side comes out. He loves exploring nature trails, going for longer walks, and taking in new environments at his own pace. He's much more of a "let's enjoy the journey" kind of hiking buddy than a marathon runner. While Ranger doesn't require endless physical exercise, he absolutely thrives when his brain is given a workout. He's an intelligent dog who enjoys figuring things out and loves any activity that challenges him mentally. Puzzle toys, snuffle mats, frozen enrichment treats, and treat-dispensing toys are some of his favorite ways to stay busy while his humans are occupied.
 

Ranger is currently in a foster home with both smaller and larger dogs varying from adult to senior ages. He does best with slow, thoughtful introductions to new dogs, giving him the opportunity to get to know them at his own pace. Once he's comfortable, he coexists very well with other dogs and has proven to be a wonderful housemate. He's currently living peacefully with five other dogs and has even started inviting them to play from time to time. Ranger is respectful around other dogs and has shown no signs of resource guarding. He's happy to share toys, chew bones, cozy spots on the couch, and attention from his people without any issues. While Ranger enjoys the company of familiar canine friends, he's not the type of dog who would enjoy the chaos of a dog park or meeting large numbers of unfamiliar dogs. He prefers a smaller circle of trusted companions and thrives in environments where introductions are calm, structured, and set up for success. Ranger would do best in a home without cats or young children. While he's a sweet and affectionate companion with the people he knows and trusts, he prefers a calm, predictable environment where he doesn't have to navigate the fast movements, loud noises, and constant activity that often come with children. A quieter home allows him to relax, build confidence, and truly be himself. Ranger would be happiest in a household where he doesn't have to share his space with feline family members. He is not a good match for a home with cats because he has shown too much interest in chasing birds, squirrels, and neighborhood cats while in his foster home. Ranger isn't looking for a busy household. He's looking for a peaceful home with adults who understand and respect his pace will allow his loyal, loving personality to shine and help him become the incredible companion we know he is.

Ranger is potty trained and leash trained. He will sleep in a kennel if he has to, but he prefers to sleep in bed with his humans or on the couch. He is not destructive when left out and does not need to be kenneled if he is left home alone. If he has to sleep in a kennel at night, bribes in the form of treats will need to be provided to coax him in. Once he's inside, he eats his treat and then curls up for bed. He is fully potty trained and knows how to use a dog door to go outside when he needs to potty (or if he wants to go sunbathe too). He walks well on a leash and his foster mom has taught him that he doesn't have to get worked up when he sees other dogs. As long as other dogs don't bark at him first, he will remain quiet and continue on his walk like he doesn't see them. 

Ranger's ideal home would be one where he can be included in his family's daily life. He would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to relax and sunbathe in, but he'd also be perfectly content in a low-traffic townhouse as long as he gets a few leisurely walks each day. He would be able to live with another calmer, low energy dog, but he's also the type of dog that can be completely happy being the "only child" and getting all his humans' attention to himself. No public dog parks for this senior boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. He would love to have a family that enjoys the outdoors and will take him on fun weekend adventures hiking and exploring nature. He would love if his human works from home or is retired, but would be fine if his human has to go to work every day too. Ranger has already mastered the art of being a wonderful companion, and now he's simply waiting for someone to give him the forever home he deserves. If you're willing to let him take things at his own pace in the beginning, you'll be rewarded with one of the most devoted, affectionate, and genuine friends you could ever ask for.
